Dr. Stuart Dexter is a prosthodontist with over 30 years of clinical experience in advanced restorative and surgical prosthodontics. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Missouri–Kansas City in 1987, followed by a general practice residency and a prosthodontics residency at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City from 1987-1990. He went on to complete a fellowship in maxillofacial prosthetics at the renowned M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston from 1990-91, with a focus on complex post-oncologic and maxillofacial rehabilitation. From 1991 to 1993, Dr. Dexter worked with the Ontario Health and Welfare program in Canada, providing care to First Nation populations in remote communities throughout northwest Ontario. He returned to Kansas City, where he taught as a professor of prosthodontics at the UMKC School of Dentistry and treated patients in faculty practice.
He opened his private practice in Prairie Village in 2000. Dr. Dexter continues to mentor residents at the Truman Medical Center, where he serves as an attending prosthodontist, gives yearly lectures at the dental school, and presents frequently at study clubs and dental meetings. Dr. Dexter has also provided monthly care at Advanced Dental Care in Joplin, Missouri, for over 15 years. His longstanding relationship at this office allows for the delivery of complex prosthodontic care to the southwest Missouri area.
Known for his calm demeanor, meticulous attention to detail, and patient-focused approach, Dr. Dexter prioritizes function, longevity, and esthetics in every case. He works closely with referring dentists to develop individualized treatment plans for patients requiring full-mouth rehabilitation, implant-supported restorations, post-oncology prosthetics, and other complex restorative solutions. In his life outside the clinic, Dr. Dexter enjoys woodworking, playing guitar, scuba diving, and spending time with his wife and children. He is also an advocate for environmental causes and strives to bring the same craftsmanship and thoughtfulness to his personal pursuits as he does to his work in prosthodontics.
